Ethanol is Evil

Part of continuing series. In today’s exciting episiode, $4.50 milk!

The boom in prices for corn, milk, beef and other food products is only getting louder.

While it’s old news that corn prices have nearly doubled over the last two years – think ethanol – now experts say corn could move sharply higher still, pushing prices up further for milk, beef, pork and a host of other commodities.

“If we’re just at the beginning of this, we could see underlying [consumer] prices go up another 3 to 5 percent – if things get rolling possibly up to another 10 percent,” said Darin Newsom, an analyst at agriculture consultant DTN. “I don’t want to scare people, but I certainly see a very solid increase in consumer prices.”

Mr. Grammar Man: Louder? How do prices become louder, exactly? Have grocery stores begun adopting a red and orange plaid font for certain items?

Carnival of the Vanities #246: The Blog/Life Balance Edition

Posted in Carnival of The Vanities on June 20th, 2007 by Kehaar – 1 Comment

Greetings from Carnival of the Vanities. This week’s edition marks the 246th issue of the longest running carnival on the web. What a long, strange trip it’s been.

Somebody should make that into a song.

Anyway, this week’s carny is going to be quick and dirty. As always, I have little enough time to devote to blogging. What with work and life, blogging tends to be a fairly low priority on the totem pole. It’s not that I don’t want to write or blog, I just find myself wanting to do so many other things.

This past weekend, for example, was dinner out with That Girl on Friday night, white-water rafting on the Ocoee, line dancing (well, standing in a line anyway) at some place called Wild Bill’s with several folks, church and a cookout by the pool with my church group on Sunday night. Monday night was exercise night and last night was dinner and a movie night, again with That Girl. Tonight is Red Soxs versus Braves at Turner Field and I have no idea what’s going on tomorrow night. Something, I’m sure. Probably not blogging.

But maybe. We’ll see.

On to the carnival.

That’s all for this week. Come back next week for the 247th edition of Carnival of the Vanities. We’re getting old and long in the tooth around here. If you’d like to be part of the next Carnival, take the time to write something people might want to read and submit it to Blog Carnival.

Until then, I’ll be doing something else.
