Sitting in a meeting today with a large chunk of the department, including numerous higher-ups. We’re discussing the pending move to a new building on south campus, one built in the shadow of the 60s-era high-rise dorms.

One of the new hires isn’t sure where to go. “It’s near that building that looks like Cabrini Green, right?” he asks.

Before anyone can answer, I interject, in my best deep Indian voice. Koyaaanisqatsiiiiiii.

Out of the twenty or so people there, I think two, maybe three got the reference. But they really, really appreciated it.

And I was content.
