I wonder how long the smell lasts.

Club member Bob Manus soon will be referred to as “Sponge Bob” because he has discovered that menhaden oil-soaked cubes of yellow sponge will catch sea bass quicker than expensive bait.

Why keep the Oregon Inlet open? According to one study, dredging actually turns a profit for the Federal Governnment a profit.

The economic benefit of Oregon Inlet to Dare County and the surrounding region is very significant and far outweighs the costs necessary to keep the inlet passable through dredging. In fact, the economic benefit to the Federal Government alone is more than 6 times the recent annual expenditures for dredging. … The four study sectors combined provide a total annual economic benefit of 9,838 jobs and $682.7 million to Dare County and the surrounding region.

You’d think that would be enough to encourage the Feds to dredge other inlets in order to keep them open. You’d be wrong.

The neighbor’s homebrew IPA. We have an excellent relationshp for what our politics are. He doesn’t lecture me on the dangers of meat, I don’t lecture him on the voodoo that is holistic medicine, and we both despise the State University of New Jersey. *

Besides, between us we’ve discovered that we can cage a bar trip or two a month out of the wives in the interest of good relations.

The beer itself is pretty interesting, for what I suspect is a kit beer, not having been present at its birth. It’s very dark, almost porter-like in nature, an odd color for what is certainly an IPA. The expected hop aftertaste is balanced pretty well by the caramel, charcoal, and molasses notes that precede it, unlike many IPAs where the hop is the end-all and be-all of the brew. He’s justifiably proud of it, I think.

I just wish the wife had informed me when he brought the beer over–an entire week ago. The absolute best way to get more free beer is to drink it quickly and praise it loudly when it first appears.

* Note to UNC Fans. This would be an excellent thing to googlebomb.

User submitted video of the tornado in Enterprise, Alabama yesterday. Pretty cool stuff.

It is the time of year for the madness.

I love it, you love it, we all love it!

First - a lot of work is yet to be done in the ACC, in figuring out who ends up where in the ACC tournamin’. In addition to UNC’s bumbling down the stretch, a loss to Duke on Sunday and a Twerps win against Clem’s son - UNC falls to the 5th! seed (Maryland jumps them) and Duke gets the 6th seed.

UNC will be a poor 10-6 in the acc 24-7 overall, the fifth seed
Duke would be 9-7 in the acc, 23-8 overall, the sixth seed

Kind of amazing considering where they were projected: Prognostications.

Hats off to the Wahoos for a miracle season. Kind of reminds me of another Cinderella. :)

Presenting the 1:45 version of In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida.

I feel somewhat unfulfilled. But I also want to hear a 2:10 version of Alice’s Restaurant, now.
