…you’re disappointed they didn’t win by 30. Just got back from my first visit to the Atlanta chapter of the UNC Alumni club at the Cheyenne Grill. I watched UNC beat Florida State by 26 points, and was pulling for 30 late in the game. I didn’t want to see our 10-game average drop from its 33 point level. As it is, I had to settle for the 26 point win. Oh well.
Thoughts from the game: Al Thornton has been at FSU for something like nine years. Tyler Hansbrough is a beast and he and Brandon Wright are gone after this season. UNC will still be in a better situation than the last major exodus to the NBA. The team is really deep. Quentin Thomas is much improved as far as ball-handling is concerned. My last thought is that UNC won by 26 and didn’t even look like they were in top form. They missed a lot of open shots and played sloppily at times. They are really good.
Will they win the National Championship? I don’t know. They’re still young and the season is still young. But they can beat any team in the nation when they’re on. I look forward to watching them play for the rest of the season.
Last thought: Bobby Knight may have passed Dean Smith for the most-college basketball wins but it won’t last. Coach K. from Duke will pass him eventually. I’m okay with that. Roy Williams is going to pass them all one of these days.
Oh…one more thought: Clemson is the last undefeated team in the nation. The apocolypse is nigh. This may be the year they beat UNC in Chapel Hill. At least it’ll be a hell of a game. I’m glad to see the resurgence of Clemson and Virginia, even though Virginia lost to Stanford tonight. They’ve been irrelevant for too long.
I also think Sidney Lowe is going to do just fine at State. And I am very happy that Virginia Tech beat Duke.
And that’s it.
Has anyone heard from Wake Forest basketball this year? Or did the school sell its collective soul to the Devil for football success?

Oh - there he is - fresh out of that 3-8 football season to get back on the UNC basketball bandwagon.
Btw - UNC could do what the 1999 Duke team did and run the table. It will take a severly off night for the Heels to lose in ACC play, IMHO.
On the coaching record - unless K’s heath fails him - I see him getting to around 1000 wins. No way Roy has the time left to catch him. Roy is right at 500 wins. He started rather late in his head coaching career. Carrying Deano’s clipboard for way too long, before becoming the HC at Kansas. He is almost 400 wins behind Knight. I would think he would need another 13 years averaging 30 wins a season to get to 900ish. Then he would be 69, and probably still behind Knight and K.
The Clemson resurgence is fun to watch. I like Purnell a lot. Uva has had some nice wins, but have you seen some of their jaw-dropping loses??? Bad losses to App. State and Utah. Stanfraud is not very good - they got blown away by Air Force on their home court.
As for the young Deacs, they are in one word - young. Prosser has missed on many high profile recruits over the past 2 years.
Still they have a nice nucleus of young talent in place - but they have a long way to go to get back to their lofty status of 2 years ago. The defensive play still plagues these Prosser-led teams.
They did have an awesome come from behind win at Miami on Saturday - down 17 with 13 minutes left in the game. That is what you are going to get with a young team like that.

What’s up, FI? Good to hear from you. You fishing this weekend?
You may be right about Roy. Didn’t know he was as old as that. But he’s been winning at an excellent clip and would need another 19 seasons at current pace to eclipse 1000 wins. Doable but you never know.
I do think K will catch Knight. I hope so actually. Hate that Knight owns that record since he’s such a jackass.
Look forward to seeing Wake play next year. I would think Prosser would have more leverage with recruits, but it’s got to be tough with UNC and Duke down the road. State looks to have better recruiting in coming years too.
BTW, I was on the UNC basketball bandwagon three weeks into football season. That’s how long it took me to realize that the football season was more of the same-old, same-old.
I’m lobbying to get John Bunting hired as the head football coach of the Oakland Raiders. Whatcha’ think?

UNC is full of farkin’ bastiges.
No fishing, have been on a whirlwind Holiday tour of NC and Florida.
In regards to Wake football, they are suppossed to be better next year, getting the redshirt freshmen in and the injured guys back.
Sugar Bowl 2008 - sounds good to me! HA!

That will be a true sign of the apocalypse. Kinda’ like Clemson going 16-0.

I thought this ACC championship was the true sign.
Or first team from North Carolina to go to a “major Bowl” game since Duke went in 1961 to the Cotton Bowl. UNC went in the 40’s with Choo-choo. NC State you ask? Never.
