Carnival of the Vanities #213

Not a lot of time this morning so I’m going to do my best to get right into the Carnival entries this week. I’ve been editing the Carnival over the past few weeks and I think it has done well. I typically receive something like 25 to 30 entries. I got about 27 this week and without further delay, I’ll present the ones I think best represent the Carnival of the Vanities.

Stephen Littau wins Best of the Week for his Personal Attack Ad Against Myself!.

Jon Swift comes in a close second with his push for Republican candidates in the 2006 Congressional Campaign Roundup.

It was really a toss-up in my mind as to which of those posts were the most creative and entertaining but Stephen wins for his brutal honesty.

Dr. Kavokin talks about a subject that is near and dear to my heart: Yellow poo. I was enthralled at his in-depth discussion about how poo gets its color and what your poo’s color might mean. Fascinating.

Peace moonbeam also gave me a chuckle relating her secret plan to take down the North Korean regime.Jimmy Jong-il meets Kim Jong-il in The Peace Moonbeam Chronicles.

I really want to know where Big Picture Guy works. He serializes events at his workplace over at BigPictureSmallOffice.com. It’s like “The Office” on a blog. His latest post is on class consciousness at the workplace.

Joel Ramos refuses to mourn the passing of CBGB and argues that nostalgia is anti-punk. He even quotes CBGB staple-band Television in And for heaven?s sake, don?t you be so sad.

Bull Jones channels the Rolling Stones and gets his priorities straight with Things I want. No, Things I NEED!. Keep him in your thoughts as he’s having foot surgery next Wednesday. Good luck, Bull!

Wayne Hurlbert gives relevant advice aboutcreative problem solving and warns against either/or syndrome. He applies it to doing business but, with the election coming up, it could be good advice when choosing candidates.

David St Lawrence talks about something that’s been on my mind recently when he talks about Late-life Artists – Transforming Life Experience Into Art. I’m moving to Atlanta next month and I’ve been debating taking up some kind of art class to fill my time since I won’t know anyone there.

Brian Tarcy picks the winners of last week’s NFL games over at WhatZgonnahappen.com. All I have to say is Panthers 23, Ravens 21.

Alan K. Henderson gives some criteria for selecting Nobel Peace Prize winners and names a few deserving candidates that fit those criterion.

Batya refused to speak English as she talks about Simchat Torah. In truth, I have no idea whether this is worthy of CoTV. I can’t even tell if the words she uses are real or made up. I’m giving her the benefit of the doubt. As we say here in the South, “Shalom, ya’ll!” (I have to give the nod to Bigwig for that one.)

Francois Tremblay points out the Propaganda in Anti-Smoking Campaigns and talks about the evils of activism. I personally found his argument to be a little weak. He talks about a smokers freedom to choose to smoke but dismisses the non-smokers right to choose not smoking. The research he cites is also old. Lastly, he seems to promote the tyranny of the minority. Check it out and see what you think.

Mark A. Rayner warns against becoming aroused in the workplace because Big Brother is watching the temperature of your naughty bits!.

Steve Faber argues that we need Opportunity redistribution rather than income redistribution.

Madeleine Begun Kane shows no deficit of lyricism in Trade Deficit, Budget Deficit, Truth Deficit.

And, finally, Jack Yoest drops names all over the place as he relates his attempt to make his through the room at the NRO 10th Anniversary Celebration. Who was he trying to reach? Read it and find out.

That’s all for the 213th edition of the Carnival of the Vanities. Thanks to all those who submitted material. Not everything made it in but I think those that did make it do justice to the Carnival. Keep those posts coming!

The next CoTV should be next Wednesday, October 25th. I will be away fishing with Bigwig and the gang but I’m hoping a host will come forward. If you would like to host next week’s Carny, please drop me a line at kehaar at this blog’s domain. If no one steps forward, CoTV will probably appear in this space next Thursday the 26th instead.
