Eco-Friendly development in Pamlico County.

The first houses of a small coastal village are rising on a finger of land near where the broad Neuse River flows into Pamlico Sound.

What’s not here sets this boating community apart from the hundreds of waterfront subdivisions transforming North Carolina’s inner coast: No line of private boat docks in front of each waterfront house at River Dunes; no wooden bulkheads banding the shoreline; no marina in the mouth of the creek.

In Denmark, where craft beers sales have overtaken those of mass-market beer.

Thomsen noted that during good economic times, people were more likely to reach for the top-self when choosing beers. Still, he said increased professionalism among microbrewers had helped them to hold onto their customers.

‘Four years ago, a lot of microbrewers were more or less making beer in their bathtubs. Today, the quality and the ability to deliver is much better.’

Microbrews make up 57 percent of sales of speciality beers. The trend towards higher quality is applauded by the Brewers Association.

‘We’re seeing a shift in the beer business. Before it was price, price, price. Today we talk about quality and competing over quality,’ said association spokesperson Kaspar Bach.

Telephone telepathy? Researcher says it rings true.

Many people have experienced the phenomenon of receiving a telephone call from someone shortly after thinking about them. Now a scientist says he has proof of what he calls telephone telepathy.

Rupert Sheldrake, whose research is funded by the respected Trinity College in Cambridge, England, said on Tuesday he has conducted experiments that proved such precognition exists for telephone calls and even e-mails.

Each person in the trials was asked to give researchers names and phone numbers of four relatives or friends. These were then called at random and told to ring the subject who had to identify the caller before answering the phone.

“The hit rate was 45 percent, well above the 25 percent you would have expected,” he told the annual meeting of the British Association for the Advancement of Science. “The odds against this being a chance effect are 1,000 billion to one.”

Last one today, I promise. This is the “Best in Greensboro” winner from last year. It’s very funny.

This one won for “Best Director” and “Best Writing”. It may have garnered another award, but I am hard pressed to remember. It was one of the audience favorites, certainly. You can also view The Making of Cletus and the Beast.

This one won “Best Acting” and deservedly so.

A quick sweep of YouTube has unearthed a few more Greensboro 48 Hour Film Project films. “Gone to Ground” was the major award winner in Greensboro in that it took in more awards than any other film. In many minds, this was the best film to come out of Greensboro. It certainly is the most polished. Probably should’ve won “best director” at the very least.

This is the film that won the “Best of Greensboro” award in the 48 Hour Film Project. It’s pretty witty. Give it a look.
