Testosterone in Landis’ Blood Sample Synthetic

Report: Synthetic testosterone found in Landis urine sample – Cycling – Yahoo! Sports

Two options here. Option 1: Landis was doping with testosterone. Option 2: Somebody spiked Landis’ sample.

I prefer option 2 at this point, but maybe I’m just being stubborn.

Beer and Testosterone

‘Twas beer that caused the drug test abnormality, Floyd Landis says.

The Weekend Australian has learned that, should Landis’s B sample be positive, he will base his defence on a case study done in 1992 by chemists from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Huddings University Hospital in Sweden.

Researchers found that drinking a 20-ounce glass of beer – or one pint – significantly increased the ratio of testosterone and epitestosterone in urine.

“What I need to prove now is there are variations in my testosterone-epitestosterone level that are out of the ordinary,” Landis said.

Nantucket Sleigh Ride

Big surf, heavy lightning, a 7 and a half foot shark, and a kayak.

On the July 15 outing, he headed out from the Eastern Shore through Magothy Channel between Fishermans and Smith islands. As he paddled into open water, a fog bank shrouded him in pea soup.

“The fog was a cool relief from the heat of the day,” he said, and his GPS kept him oriented. He rigged a chum bag, put some menhaden oil drops in the water and live-baited his big rods.

“My first fish was a small thresher [shark], followed by a big hookup and escape after a five-minute fight,” Maxwell said.

He caught and released another sandbar, about 4½ feet, when two things hit pretty much at once — the bigger shark and the storm.

Tarpon Tips

A little late for the Oriental tournament, but still handy

Where you have seen them before you will see them again. They are known for running a path of sorts. It’s an invisible path, because water can’t hold any sort of print.

The secret to tarpon fishing is that you must use the prefect size bait. It has to be compact, but appealing to the fish. Tarpon don’t have a fine set of teeth so therefore the bait used has to fit when swallowed down their throat whole. In this area tarpon really do love the taste of menhaden. It doesn’t have to be alive to get their attention. Tarpon are basically bottom feeders.

For the upper column bite I suggest using a large 12-inch trout float. However, I don’t suggest using a trout style sinker stay with a slip style weight. You want the least amount of weight friction that you can get once you get your hook up.

For the two places I’ve been asked for the most.

Ocracoke, and Baghdad.

Drop me a note if you need one for somewhere else.

Got the image via an email today. The flag identifies the fighter on the left as a Palestinian, but the tactics he’s using are the same.

48 Hour Film Project Film: Confidential

I have been meaning to post more on the 48 Hour Film Project, but have no time. Until I can post my thoughts, I’ll post the first film from Greensboro that I’ve been able to find on YouTube. Keep in mind that this is not the film from my team. It’s just the first one I’ve found that’s been released into the wild. It’s mildly amusing. Enjoy.

The Oregon Bridge, Redux

A Fed weighs in on the Bonner Bridge replacement.

The U.S. interior secretary says he supports building a bridge over the Oregon Inlet parallel to the existing span and deciding the issue of rerouting the connecting highway later.

“I believe the best way to proceed would be to separate the replacement of the Bonner Bridge, a project whose delay could constitute a clear and present safety issue for all concerned, from the more difficult and less urgent issue of the realignment of the road,” Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne wrote in a July 5 letter to U.S. Sen. Richard Burr and Gov. Mike Easley.

Lindeman’s Peche Lambic

Last night, we did make the effort. Then we pulled out our “beer of the week” and cursed ourselves, because we needed a corkscrew for the damn bottle. Such is the case when drinking a Lindemans lambic.

Lambics are great for any season. The history of lambics goes back 500 years, to the Belgian working class. Like Chicagoist, they also sometimes craved a beer without all the work. Lambics are brewed using a process called “spontaneous fermentation”. Back in the day, after the wort (the extract produced from malted barley) was cooled to ambient temperature, it was exposed to the open air and the yeasts that were floating in the atmosphere. This gives lambic its dry flavor and sour aftertaste. Then a faerie rode into town on a unicorn and sprinkled faerie dust over the beer, to aid in the fermentation, and protect those who sipped from the cask from the evil, marauding Gauls.
