Islam is a peaceful religion. We’ve been sold that particular lie for years. It’s part of the ongoing attempt to portray Islam not as it is, but as the Koran tells us it should be.
This particular lie seems impervious to fact. Televised decapitation cannot dent the armor of the lie, so this won’t help. But what the hell? Lower lance. Gallop at windmill.
How should the humble practitioners of this peaceful faith deal with the publication of a few offensive political cartoons? You’ve got to really squint when you read the Koran, but the answer is clear: demand mass murder.
“Whoever defames our prophet should be executed,” said Ismail Hassan, a tailor who marched in the pouring rain with hundreds of other Muslims in the West Bank city of Ramallah. “Bin Laden our beloved, Denmark must be blown up,” the protesters chanted.
and
“Strike, strike, Bin Laden,” shouted some in a crowd of about 50,000 who filled a Khartoum square.
Oh, and toss in a few stray embassy burnings for good measure.
This isn’t the useless book interpretation of Islam. This is Islam in the street, where the composition is thus:
1) Terrorists. A minority. We’re familiar with their work.
2) Peaceful Muslims. Voices of reason. A minority numbering fewer than we are told, and bordering on statistical insignificance.
3) Enablers. Good Germans. Ticketholders at the Auto da Fe. An overwhelming statistical majority. These are the folks who ask Bin Laden to kill somebody, then turn around and say they are peaceful while the bodies are being identified. These are the folks who stay silent while the apartment building across the street is used as an obvious terrorist armory.
Our government insists again and again that we are not waging a war against Islam.
Damn shame, that.
