ESPN.com - NCB - Power 16: Expert Lists, Jan. 12

Duke is improving and is the most fluid offensive team out there right now. UConn has had some relative struggles as the Huskies try to find out exactly who they are, but Marcus Williams provides them with easy baskets. To me, those are the two best teams, and Duke takes the top spot by virtue of being unbeaten. I still can’t figure out what a Power 16 really is … is it a projection of which teams will be the best or a reflection of this week’s scores? Heck, if there is no projection in it, who needs it? All you have to do is look at records. For me, it is a combination of both schools of thought. I try to consider how good a team really is, balanced with how they have played this particular week — and I do it all in less than three minutes. That’s what I think of polls …

1. Duke
2. Connecticut
3. Florida
4. Texas
5. Villanova
6. Illinois
7. Memphis
8. Michigan State
9. Gonzaga
10. Indiana
11. Wisconsin
12. Ohio State
13. Washington
14. West Virginia
15. UCLA
16. Pittsburgh
16. Tyler Hansbrough…

I’m having a hard time taking this religion seriously. We all want to stone the devil, but can’t we be orderly about it?

See what alcohol can do.

Reminds me of a cheese commercial. “Behold the power of alcohol!” The before and after photos are a crying shame. The young lady in the first photo is really cute. And I bet she has a dead sexy British accent. The older woman in the second photo is…well, let’s just say that she looks like she’d have British teeth. And this was all done as a kind of “experiment”. I can’t imagine ruining my health and youthful good looks for any experiment or to make any point.

I think I’m quickly becoming addicted to Pandora. I stayed up way too late last night just to see what the next song might be.

I also discovered that, by clicking on a song, you could save it to a “favorites” list. Wish I’d been a little more curious previously, as there are hours worth of music that have played that I’d like to add to that list. I also didn’t realize you could either download the track through iTunes or buy the album on Amazon.com.

But that’s neither here nor there. I don’t use iTunes because I don’t own an iPod and I won’t typically buy a CD.

My favorite artist discovery is Grant-Lee Phillips. He only started playing after I added Wilco, Uncle Tupelo and Son Volt to my station base. His “Calamity Jane” is a great tune.

Update
I’ve figured out one annoyance with music services that make music recommendations based on your likes and dislikes: all they do is make recommendations. They don’t play the music you actually tell them you like. They just play music they think you’ll like based on that information. You know, when I put in 25 or 30 artists, you can actually play those artists on a pretty regular basis too, you know?
