Where can I find the best deals on airline tickets? I’m taking off for Paris in two months and I need to book a flight. I’ve been literally all over the web looking for cheap tickets and I have yet to be able to match my friend’s $450 dollar ticket on American. Somebody give me a hint. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Anyone?
Update: Okay, rather than wait and take the advice of our kind commenter, I went ahead and booked through the web. I searched literally everywhere I could find. I tried the major travel websites: Priceline, Expedia, Travelocity and Orbitz. I tried Yahoo Travel, which is basically Travelocity. I tried the websites for Delta, American, United, US Air, Northwest, Air Canada, Air France, Lufthansa, KLM and British Airways. Oh yeah, I tried Continental too. I couldn’t think of other major North American or European carriers though there probably are a few I left out. I tried CheapTickets.com, Ebay and Hotwire.com.
Almost all of these sites gave me nearly identical results, but I didn’t feel like I was getting a deal. The best price I found was about $630 bucks with taxes and fuel surcharges thrown in.
I tried Kayak.com and came up with better prices ($611) and what I felt was a more comprehensive search, but it still wasn’t what I thought I could get. I did think of naming my own price on Priceline and seeing if I could get tickets, but I didn’t feel comfortable with that.
I finally did try the AirCompare widget from Yahoo Widgets. That led me to a few more sites. BargainTravel.com, LowestFares.com or something like that. More of the same, for the most part. BUT…it did lead me to one site, CheapAir.com, where I finally found my deal.
The rate there was a better flight in that it is a non-stop flight and, with taxes and fuel surcharges, was still more than $100 dollars less than any other package on any other site. I’m booked on Air France and the price is $153 dollars less than what I found on the Air France website. I am pleased.
Anyway, thought I’d share my experience with others who might be looking for cheap flights.
And now the site isn’t blank.
