Two of the folks who acquitted Michael Jackson of child molestation are cashing in on Jackson’s fame, and they don’t seem to care if it makes them look like the lowest kind of pond crust.
Jackson jurors Ray Hultman and Eleanor Cook, who both have pending book deals, are now turning around and saying they think Jackson was guilty.
In a preview shown Monday on NBC’s “Today,” Cosby asked Cook if the other jurors will be angry with her.
“They can be as angry as they want to. They ought to be ashamed. They’re the ones that let a pedophile go,” responded Cook, 79.
No, you old baggage, YOU were the one who let a pedophile go. If you were sure Jackson was guilty, you had the responsibility to sit there and convince the others of his guilt. Failing that, you should have hung the jury.
Outside of paying reprehensible taxes, your only real responsibility in this, the greatest nation in the history of the world is this: When you end up on a jury, put the goddamned criminals in jail!
If Jackson was guilty, you should have jailed him. No excuse on your part is acceptable. Not even making a few bucks from a facile, ghostwritten book aimed at facile, ghost-brained consumers.
I served on a jury a few years ago. It wasn’t exactly the way I had planned to spend a week of my life, but once I got there, I was going to do it right.
Rape and kidnapping case. Two Mexican defendants. One alleged white victim. Intrigue. Betrayal. Lesbianism. “The Missing Mexican.” And in the end, the prosecution didn’t make their case. Didn’t come close.
Now we come to the jury room. Over the four days of testimony we had done as instructed, and had not discussed the case, so I had absolutely no idea what the other jurors were thinking. When we discussed the case, some good and bad points were made. One good one that I had not considered. Then it was time for out first vote.
I was panicked. These seemed like nice people, but what if they were a bunch of maniacs? Suppose they wanted to lock these guys up when it was obvious the evidence did not warrant it. I decided at that moment that I would not allow it. I wouldn’t have been able to live with myself. And that’s how it should be for people who are worth a damn.
Either Ray Hultman and Eleanor Cook released a pedophile back into society, or they are lying to sell books. I truly hope they are liars, because the alternative makes them something far worse.
** Note: My co-jurors were not maniacs, and all voted to acquit with very little arm-twisting. As I said at the time: When two Mexicans are accused of raping a white woman, and twelve white people acquit them, they probably didn’t do it.
