Is this the year??

Posted in Uncategorized on June 30th, 2005 by Fiver – Comments Off

Is this finally the year, one of us hooks up and lands the big one? I think so! Actually, I think this year we could see a few citation reds caught by the FDS gang. For some reason, I just think it’s going to be our turn finally. I think it’s one of those things that you have to put some time in and pay your dues before really being rewarded. It takes some effort as well as luck but I’ve already got a good feeling. Dawg’s big red got away but I think it was just too soon and the fish gods let him get loose. Here’s the keys to catching a citation drum:
1. Fish @ night
2. Keep fresh bait out there
3. Stay sober enough to do the previous two steps over and over and over…
I think Dawg’s with me on the night fishing at least a few nights out of the week. I’d just as soon stay out on the beach and fish/drink until 2 in the morning than go back to the house and do the same. I’d love some company on South Point @ midnight. May the fish be with you….

Okay, maybe I missed it.

But why isn’t the blogosphere running around with its hair on fire over this outrageously insane statement by Nancy Pelosi? Last time I checked, Karl Rove is basically a pollster for the President. Nancy Pelosi actually has a vote in the House, something Karl Rove lacks.

How to Win the War on Terror

The New York Times’ European subsidiary gives us an idea on how to rebuild the World Trade Center in such a way, so that it doesn’t get attacked again, and doesn’t offer offense to the rest of the world: simply build it so that it doesn’t stand taller than any of the surrounding buildings.

Come to think of it, that’s the Eurointelligentsia’s advice to the U.S. on pretty much everything – “don’t do anything to stand out.” Oh well.

Le Tour Countdown

Armstrong ‘has only three rivals’.

Ivan Basso, Alexandre Vinokourov, and Jan Ullrich. Of the three, Basso worries me most. He is young and matched Armstrong climb for climb last year. It’ll be interesting to see what a year of training has done for him.

Highly Kelo-ric

Raleigh, NC ? in a surprise move, obscure blog Silflay Hraka, better known for having overrun France, turned it?s eyes to the Blawgosphere, in an effort to wipe out SCOTUSBlog, Jack Balkin, and the Volokh horde in a single week.

Okay, fine, I?m going to flood the zone here, but I?ll try to say something completely different about Kelo and the court, because I?m an attorney, and frankly, people pay me to think in ways they can?t, or won?t. It took me a while to draft this, and it?s not perfect yet, and I apologize for that. But I hope you appreciate that the issues raised by Kelo are of a broad scope. The Controversy isn?t about a single case, it?s about our approach to self governance and to the role of law in society. This took me a while to think about in a semi-orderly fashion, therefore.

Heh, sweet.

If this ever gets to the investment stage, I’m totally in.

Let’s Get it Started

Armstrong shrugs off minor crash.

Only five more days until the start of the 2005 Tour De France. I’m getting pumped. There has been a lot of talk about Lance Armstrong being behind schedule as far as his training is concerned. There should also be a strong field this year ready to challenge him. I am a little worried about Armstrong’s defense of his Tour championship.

More to come…

FDS Roll Call

Just wondering who among the FDS crew is checking in on this site? How about posting a reply to this and let’s see if we can get the site a little more active as we head into the final 3 months before we hit the beach!! I’ll try and post some more entries. I’ve tried posting about fishing and a slutty rich chick. What’s left? Suggestions? In case you can’t tell, I’m starting to anticipate our annual pilgrimage to Ocracoke about 2 months too soon!

Kelo vs. New London

Posted in Uncategorized on June 24th, 2005 by Woundwort – 1 Comment

Earlier this week, the United States House of Representatives passed a bill that would amend the constitution to protect the American flag from desecration.

Whether flag-burning is an issue serious enough to warrant an amendment to the constitution is debatable. I don’t personally support amending the Constitution to prevent desecrating the flag, as I believe it serves to undermine Constitutional protections of free speech.

I feel that the House would better spend it’s time protecting the freedoms guaranteed to U.S. citizens in the Constitution and Bill of Rights. That’s why I have contacted my Representative urging him to take whatever steps are necessary to reinstate my rights as a property owner after yesterday’s disastrous, erroneous and misguided decision by the United States Supreme Court in the case of Kelo vs. New London.

If the House is going to spend time debating amendments to the Constitution, it should consider amending the document to prevent local governments from seizing private property for the enrichment of other private parties, no matter the compensation.

That’s the sentiment I expressed to my Representative, and I hope that each and every one of you will do likewise. The blogosphere is alive with this debate and it’s an excellent opportunity to show the power of our community in informing debate and defining the issues. If you feel wronged by this decision, contact your U.S. Representative, your Senators, your local representatives or even President Bush and let them know how you feel.

Contact your local media outlet too. Don’t let mainstream media drop this issue.

This is one time that none of us can afford to site idly by and watch our rights be taken from us. Your property may not be on the line now, but will it be safe forever? I urge everyone not to wait until your personal property is threatened.
