Yesterday, a search on the words “Kerry” and “affair” at Google News returned something like 12 results.
Today it returned 597.
If the number shrinks in the coming days, then Kerry’s dimissal of the story this morning may have been all that was needed to put the story to rest.
If, on the other hand the number of stories continues to grow, then the story hasn’t died. Kerry’s probably lucky this story broke near the end of the week. People tend not to pay as much attention to the news over the weekend. Of course, if Time Magazine actually is prepping a story on a Kerry affair, as this Clark-related weblog claimed last week, then a slow news weekend won’t matter at all in the long run.
Update: Bill Quick detects the hand of a Clinton in the way the story came about. If so, then these numbers will do nothing but grow. The Clintons know how to keep a story simmering. If “new details” come out in the next few days it’s sure to be the sign of an experienced media manipulator at work. At that point Hill and BIll are as good a choice as anyone.
